A Little Nip and Tuck

It was high time for the house to get a face lift. We have been here for 8 years now, and with no plans to go anywhere else (that we know of), we decided to get her a little makeover. This has been a good little house. It has grown with us from Sadie being a 2-year-old in a crib, to a pre-teen who likes to keep ALL of her possessions on the floor at the same time. It has sustained us when we were both working full-time and commuting to offices and when I decided to stay home and Chris' job required him to start working from home. Yes, our eyes have strayed and we have lusted over other houses, but in the end we always come back home and realize that it is just that...Home.

Anyway, enough sentimentality. So, after SEVERAL weeks of anticipation, renovations began. This consisted of 2 full weeks worth of strange men crawling all over the house and banging a myriad of objects against it. Two weeks of parking on the street and walking up and down our unforgiving hill several times a day. Two weeks of construction equipment strewn across the driveway. Worst of all was two weeks of waking up before the sun, to let the dog out, before the guys started working at 6:45am. Anyway, construction is finally complete (with the exception of our new gutters, which were supposed to be here Monday) and we are pleased. Here are some before, during, and after photos.

What a lovely home! We are beginning a remodel any day now (plans are at the county and we are just waiting for the bureaucratic stamp of approval). I am excited about the finished product but think I am crazy for undertaking this. At least we aren't living in it. We've moved a couple of blocks away for the duration of construction.
